Well-prepared pallets load faster, ride better and are less likely to be re-measured or re-classed. Here's what to check before pickup.
Build a stable pallet
- Use a pallet in good condition that's sized to the load
- Stack boxes square, heaviest on the bottom, without overhang
- Stretch-wrap tightly from the pallet up, and band heavy loads
Label and document
- Label each handling unit with shipper, consignee and piece count
- Record accurate dimensions and weight on the bill of lading
- Note special handling — fragile, do not stack, keep upright
Have the dock ready
Confirm the pickup window, dock hours and any equipment needs such as a liftgate. If anything changes, let your contact know early so the carrier can adjust.
